Rockville, MD (AP) - The Washington Cobras thoroughly dominated the Washington Wildcats 4-1 in the first round of the HNA division C1 playoffs last night.
The Cobras outshot the Wildcats 33-11. Despite the obvious domination, the Cobras actually trailed midway through the second when a Cobras turnover in their own zone proved costly, as the ensuing Wildcat centering pass was tapped home past a defenseless Sean White. Pete Mihalick, sporting what could only be described as the ugliest beard in the history of playoof beards, tied the game late in the second off a great feed from Simi Schopf.
The Cobras, despite the statistical dominance, were unable to pull away until late in the third when the Baby Bull, Aton Teitelbaum, struck for 2 goals on one shift past an exhausted Leo Parsons to put the game out of reach. Mihalick added the fourth goal with 30 seconds left, off a feed from Yitz Shmulewitz (obviously inspired by the play of Sean Avery. Yitz played with an edge. A really dull, rusty, non-threatening edge, but an edge nonetheless), to cap a terrific night from the SPY line.
The Cobras are back in action in a critical tilt on Sunday night in Rockville against the Lords-Moose winner. Good seats are still available.
